Froala Rich Text Editor Release Notes

Froala Rich Text Editor Release Notes

Summary

Froala is a rich text editor that allows users to author content in Concourse; it is supported by Concourse’s infrastructure.

Benefits

Froala supports Concourse’s existing text styling capabilities. It allows users to author original content, copy and paste content from other tools, and edit html.

Availability

The Froala Editor is available in sandbox and production environments. All users can experience the Froala Editor in any area of Concourse where they are able to edit text (CV, syllabus items).

Step-by-Step

The Froala Editor automatically appears in all Concourse locations where users are able to edit text. No additional intervention is required to enable Froala.

Interface Changes

The Froala Editor contains all the same text styling options (buttons) as the previous rich text editor, in the same order. The toolbar is functionally the same but has slight variations in appearance. The Froala Editor has rounded corners with a pale gray background on buttons, whereas the previous text editor had sharp corners with a white background on buttons.

Limitations

It can be difficult for screen readers to assess what type of content is contained by HTML dividers; as a result, Froala does not support <div> tags due to potential challenges for meeting accessibility standards.

Existing <div> tags on content created with the previous rich text editor will not be lost; however, if users edit past syllabi that contain <div> tags, the <div> tags will be stripped and formatting will not be retained. The resulting content may appear differently than the editor intends.
